Technical Director - Operations and Maintenance

Job Scope
The objective of this management position is to improve the operational and maintenance performance of the plant, while minimizing technical risk and optimizing revenues and expenditures. The position provides a high level of expertise to all, including the GM, Plant Manager, Senior Leadership, and their Senior Staff, 3rd Party O&M contractors, as well as fuel suppliers, and other Equity owners to implement improvements of work processes and practices to achieve improved performance. The position requires influencing change and coaching as appropriate to promote continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
  • Improve Plant Performance
    • Review routine O&M methods and practices and implement changes based on industry best practices. Must be able to recognize risks to generation and influence action to minimize or eliminate risks in order to meet the Power Purchase Agreement requirements;
  • Improve the Effectiveness of the Management Staff
    • Provide mentoring and coaching experience for General Manager and executive staff. Review and improve the organizational structure, goals, accountability and empowerment within the organization to achieve alignment with the objectives of the business plan;
  • Major Maintenance, Projects, Procurement, and Inventory
    • Work with GM and executive and plant management teams to improve the systems and processes in order to be able to complete project scopes on schedule, within budget, and with quality standards;
  • Improve Performance of Generation Assets
    • Monitor Operations and Maintenance management practices and promote industry best practices. Areas of focus will be operations routines, maintenance planning and execution, forced outage causes, monitor and challenge and Root Cause Analysis when required;
  • Assist with communicating to HSSE Group regarding lost time work incidents, and their audit process.

Requirements:
  • Must have minimum 10 years’ experience including technical and management positions in electric utilities, IPPs, power generation, project development, construction, and/or engineering;
  • 5 years’ senior management experience;
  • BSc Engineering or equivalent qualification is required;
  • Engineering Certification is an asset;
  • Superior working knowledge of power generation technology, power generation O&M methods and practices, project management processes, budget development and cost control, risk assessment, and engineering as applied to the power generation industry;
  • Must be proficient in modern computer and software applications for business such as MS Office;
  • Must possess interpersonal skills necessary to lead and influence others by persuasion rather than by direct authority;
  • Must possess strong communication and presentation skills – verbal and written;
  • Must have analytical skills necessary for detailed review of business plans, organizational plans, budgets, projects, outage plans, technical reports, etc.
