Area Manager - Retail
The Area Manager is responsible for supervising the on-going operation of up to five (5) pawnshops in a geographic area that requires no more than one hour travel time between the respective stores.
Supervise and direct the day-to-day activities of the five stores assigned to the position. This includes training and development of the staff of each store along with daily monitoring of performance numbers as well as employee productivity.
Spend one full day per work week in each store, being responsible for the opening and closing of the store as well as remaining with the staff to monitor their activities for the entire day.
Interviewing staff (formal or informal as needed).
Conduct routine audits while in each store. These audits include cash counts, inventory group counts, jewelry case counts, inspecting loans written since the last visit, review pricing and mark down old merchandise that has not been properly priced. Conduct a layaway audit and forfeit delinquent layaways that have no activity or evidence of follow-up.
Work with store staff to relay inventory on the floor while making sure all back stock is brought to the floor and properly priced.
Visit competition in the area with the store manager or a member of staff to review competition handling of loans and pricing of merchandise.
Complete monthly reviews within five working days following the issuing of P&L documents for the prior month.
Complete a One-On-One for each store manager.
Check with store staff to be sure all training materials are current and all staff has completed required training activities.
Spend at least one hour with the assistant manager going over selected reports or review results from the visit.
Interview at least one hourly associate during each visit to determine the overall attitude of the team member and the store.
Initiate a maintenance check for the store manager and leave required instructions for handling any maintenance issues.
Review productivity records for all team members. Verify with store or assistant manager any action to be taken regarding the status of non-performers. Review One-On-One records for all staff.
Approve loans by phone for other stores while at the selected store.
Communicate as needed with other stores supervised during the day.
Attend monthly P&L Review meetings with senior management at designated locations.
Prepare quarterly budget reviews for senior management follow-up. Also prepare and distribute annual budgets one month prior to the effective date for those budgets.
Adjust budgets as needed during the course of the year.
Participate in at least one book review and one management camp during the fiscal year.
High School/College Level education or equivalent is required.
Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience, preferable in a retail environment, multi-unit supervision experience will be a plus.
Must speak clear English. Bilingual abilities are desirable (English/Spanish).
Possess computer silks sufficient to construct and distribute excel spread sheets and similar documents.
Be an above average listener and communicator in order to accommodate the needs of customers and store teams.
Must be able to work forty (40) or more hours per week, including store visits on weekends and holidays.
Must abide by all laws and/or statutes applicable to the pawn industry.
Interact in a positive and professional manner with local authorities regarding any matter associated with the operation of a pawn shop.
