Financial Controller, Kingston
 
Job Purpose: 
The Financial Controller is a strong leader and participant in the creation of the financial statements, daily transactional accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and cash/management treasury transactions. 

The Controller is responsible for the integrity of all financial transactions and leads and trains the team to successful, on-time, completion of all financial tasks.  The team includes Staff Accountants, Payroll Manager, and an Accounting Clerk.  Reporting to the North American Group leader, the Controller leads the local team in developing and maintaining best practices to financial and accounting processes including internal controls, systems, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, cash management/treasury and compliance (customer agreements, governance, etc.). 
 
The incumbent will be responsible for driving continuous improvement and effectively partnering with the local management team across all functions. The successful candidate is a hands-on self-starter with a strong work ethic and desire to promote and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
 

Main Responsibilities: 
Responsible for all daily financial transactions, journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial statement preparation, financial presentation decks, cash-flow forecasting/ monitoring and daily banking activities.
  • Supervises payroll manager and assists in insuring that all team members are paid correctly and on time each pay period.
  • Ensures invoicing is completed on a timely basis each month and monitors accounts receivable payments/assists in collection. Maintains a clean and correct AR register in SAP.
  • Provides financial forecast information on a timely basis to forecasting coordinator and reviews completed forecast for accuracy.
  • Monitors departmental financial performance and capital spending against budget and provides reporting to both local management and NA Controller.
  • Actively participate in and oversee the monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial close process, relevant management reporting including the preparation of consolidated internal and external financial statements, support for board reporting and facilitation of internal/external audits, etc.
  • Play a critical role in maximizing the capabilities and efficiencies of SAP and develop/ implement other I.T enabled solutions to enable base line capabilities and improve efficiencies/effectiveness.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP/IFRS as well as applicable domestic/international regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives so as to identify their needs and seek full range of business solutions including generating analyses to facilitate/support financial decisions.
 
 

Requirements: (Education, Experience, Skills)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting; Master’s degree preferred.
  • ACCA or CPA designation required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; a combination of both public and private company and/or Big 4 experience preferred.
  • Business Process Management industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in coaching and developing employees.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, as well as proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and ERP systems preferably SAP.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP as well as international finance/accounting including IFRS.
