Director- Towing Operations

Job Description
Under the authority of the Director – Operations, the position holder will supervise and coordinate towing operations for the proper conduct of the Jamaica Project. The incumbent makes sure that delivered services comply with a high level of quality and service, in terms of deadlines, costs and quality. He is also responsible for the direct supervision of the tugboat crews. Finally, he is responsible of the client communication and business development.


Responsibilities
  • Elaborate, plan, coordinate and oversee the performance of activities, towing operations and projects pertaining to client needs.
  • Ensure active supervision of navigating personnel by implementing strategies that allow OSH standards, comply with best practices and meet objectives.
  • Adapt and continuously improve harbour towing operations and activities.
  • Elaborate, recommend and implement needed processes and policies to optimize towing operations.
  • Determine labour needs and participate in the hiring of employees for his entity.
  • Ensure the onboarding of new employees.
  • Ensure that facilities, machinery and work methods are in compliance with all regulatory restrictions and standards in effect for the project.
  • Ensure the promotion and the respect of regulatory restrictions and standards of occupational safety with his crews.
  • Plan, coordinate and control the health and safety committee of his segment and apply preventive or corrective measures agreed upon.
  • Ensure that the quality manual (SMS) is applied and followed on each tugboat and that the related documentation is completed and kept as prescribed.
  • Plan in consultation with the Quality Assurance Department the annual inspection of the tugboats, ensure the smooth conduct of the inspections and follow up to meet Jamaican authorities and classification societies requirements.
  • Monitor certificates of competency of the navigating personnel and plan necessary training.
  • Ensure and maintain good relations with the client, its representatives and all other contractors assigned to the project.
  • Identify business opportunities with existing and potential clients and introduce other pertinent Ocean services.
  • Approve invoices and requisitions and forward the necessary documents to the accounting department.


Requirements:
  • Have 7 to 10 years of experience in a management position.
  • Skills in operational logistics.
  • Experience in staff management.
  • Excellent at managing priorities.
  • Proven leadership and ability to bring a team together.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain relationships with clients.
  • Experience in the marine sector (an asset).
