Job SummaryThe General Accountant is responsible for the financial integrity of the resort’s end-to-end operations. This senior-level position oversees all financial reporting, internal controls, and statutory compliance, ensuring the resort meets the rigorous standards while strictly adhering to Jamaican tax laws and financial regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Statutory Compliance & Remittances: Lead the preparation and timely filing of all monthly statutory returns (SO1) to Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), ensuring accuracy for GCT (General Consumption Tax), PAYE, NIS, NHT, Education Tax, and HEART/NSTA contributions.
- Financial Reporting (IFRS): Prepare comprehensive monthly management accounts and P&L statements using USALI departmental standards for Rooms, F&B, Spa, and groups, while ensuring the consolidated output complies with local IFRS requirements.
- Revenue & All-Inclusive Audits: Oversee daily revenue reconciliation for a 500+ room environment, ensuring proper treatment of all-inclusive guest entitlements, luxury upgrades, and multi-currency transactions (JMD and USD).
- Asset & FF&E Management: Maintain the Fixed Asset Register, specifically managing the Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E) reserves essential for maintaining high standards, and coordinating annual physical audits.
- Internal Controls & Audit: Implement robust internal controls to mitigate risk in high-cash-flow areas like front office drops and F&B outlets. Serve as point of contact for external auditors during annual reviews.
- Budgeting & Cash Flow: Manage daily cash requirements to ensure operational liquidity for the resort’s extensive supply chain.
- Team Leadership & Management: Manage and mentor a multi-tiered team of 10, consisting of two Coordinators and eight Assistants at various seniority levels.
- Performance Management: Responsible for professional development, workflow delegation, and ensuring departmental standards are met across all staff tiers.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years at a senior level in a large resort or hotel environment (300+ rooms preferred).
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. Professional certification such as ACCA (Level 2 or 3 completed) or CPA is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Advance proven proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with industry-standard Property Management Systems (PMS) like Opera Cloud and SAP.
- Local Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the General Consumption Tax (GCT) Act and Jamaican tax regulations.
